Emily Larson the Mayor of Duluth, publicly refused help from some mysterious “man” and other “men” using her Twitter.
What purpose did Mayor Larson’s Tweet serve? She wasn’t specific, didn’t name the “gentleman” or other “men.”
She appeared to politely thank him for his offer to help but stated she’s too busy leading to accept his offer. That alone would seem strange? But she implied that this gentleman denigrated her publicly and privately. So let’s examine this. Publicly elected officials are often denigrated on social media; that’s the nature of politics. It’s just easier to do these days with the internet and social media outlets. If you look at Mayor Larson’s social profiles there are some posts that would appear to denigrate. Nothing really stood out, in fact, it was more like an echo chamber. Like-minded people all echoing each other’s ideas, talk about some “confirmation biases.” (That’s for another day)
So I don’t think Emily knows this “gentleman” good enough to be on her “friends” Facebook list. What a strange term for Facebook to use. I mean really? Are all these people really her friends. But since this was Twitter, which really is in my opinion worse than Facebook. The level of toxicity on this site is sickening. And there lies the first clue. Here Mayor Larson is attacking the said “gentleman.” While over on her Facebook she is doing Yoga. One site is used to attack, the other to find her center. We really are all guilty of this strange duality. So I’m not faulting Emily. I just wanted to point that out for her.
So by using her Twitter, the Mayor went on the attack. She left her serene place over in the echo chamber of Facebook; and went to attack mode.
Something really is bothering her about this “gentleman” and “men.”
I’d like to know a few things. First what help was offered? Because this Covid-19 has devastated Duluth’s economy. Which was already built on a house of cards (too reliant on tourism). Secondly, who are these mysterious gentlemen? And finally, why do they anger Mayor Larson?
